Family Wagner

Christian and his Filipino wife Adela have been serving the Lord in Asia for over 30 years. Together with their son Timothy and his wife Genesis—who lead the youth ministry and international outreach—they live in Davao City, on the island of Mindanao in the southern Philippines.

Their heart beats for sharing the Good News of Jesus and planting churches among people who have never heard the Gospel before—both in the bustling city and in the remote mountain tribes of the island.

Planting Churches

At the heart of our mission is a deep desire to obey Jesus’ Great Commission—to make disciples of all nations. That’s why we’re planting new churches among the many people groups of Mindanao, including the Visayan, Mandaya, Matigsalog, Manobo, and others—both in the bustling city of Davao and in remote villages often facing threats from communist rebels.

Over the years, we’ve helped establish more than ten local churches. We continue to care for them, teach, and guide believers in their journey of discipleship. We also train pastors and ministry workers, equipping and encouraging Filipino believers to step into missions themselves—so together we can respond to the growing opportunities to plant even more churches.

The Philippines is a beautiful island nation made up of over 7,100 islands and home to more than 110 million people. But it’s also a land that faces many challenges—natural disasters like earthquakes and typhoons, and ongoing conflicts with communist and Muslim rebel groups.

Right now, there are still around 26,000 villages and communities without a single local church. That’s why we’d love to invite you to become part of the mission—through your faithful prayers and regular support—so that many more churches can be planted.

Rescue a Child

Back in the year 2000, we were deeply moved when we saw children in the slums of Bucana dying from malnutrition. Our hearts were filled with compassion and love. Adela herself was once a severely malnourished child and barely survived her early years. We have freely received hope—and now we want to freely share that same hope with others. What a joy it is to express Christ’s love in such a tangible way, just as He first loved us!

That’s why we started the “Rescue-a-Child” program. Through this ministry, more than 40 children in need are now receiving daily meals, access to education, and loving care from our local team at the Bucana Children’s Center in Davao City. Most importantly, they’re being introduced to the life-changing message of the Gospel.

Christian & Adela Wagner

Christian and Adela Wagner serve as missionaries with Liebe in Aktion and are the founders of the missions organization Light in Asia – Stiftung Hope in the Philippines.

Christian began sharing the Gospel in the Philippines at age 22, reaching places where no churches had yet been planted. For many years, he also produced an evangelistic TV program. Adela planted her first church at just 18 while attending Bible school, and by 21, she became one of the first Filipino missionaries to serve in China—spending four years working with the house churches.

Together, Christian and Adela have been proclaiming the Good News in the southern Philippines for over twenty years, with a heart to see new churches established. Today, they care for and disciple more than ten congregations, train pastors, and teach missions courses. Their ministry has mobilized and sent Filipino missionaries into spiritually dark regions of Asia.

They serve the poorest of the poor in the city and bring the Gospel to unreached tribal villages in the mountains—sharing the love of Jesus through the Word of God, the power of the Holy Spirit, and practical help like nutrition programs for children and disaster relief.

As an evangelist, Bible teacher, and missionary, Christian’s passion is to inspire others to join God’s mission—especially to reach the unreached.
